Introduction |
|
In july 2005 I travelled to the Malaysian state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo. Its main capital Kuching has historical monuments from the time of the white rajas. The National Park at Bako is famous for its proboscis monkeys in the mangrove woods. The wildlife rehabilitation centre at Semonggoh prepares orang utans for their return to a life in the jungle. I also visited the Iban headhunters and their longhouses along the Lemanak river in the heart of Borneo. Later in the month of july I went to the Malaysian state of Sabah on the island of Borneo. There I visited the monitor lizards living in the lagunes of Pulau Tiga. I also visited the Penan tribes in the National Park at Mulu. My journey ended with a climb of the mythical Kinnabalu mountain.
